The Berel State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve is implementing the research project IRN AP23486716 "Sign System and Tamgas of the Kazakhs of the Altai" as part of the grant funding from the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2024-2026.
In the second year of the three-year project, exploratory research was conducted in the Katon-Karagay and Ulan districts, during which tombstones with tamgas were discovered. A comparative analysis of the identified tamgas with archival materials showed that they represent the Ergenek clan tamga, which belonged to the Saryzhomart, Bura, and Kokzharly clans.

The research results were published in the journal "Archaeology of Kazakhstan" (Q1), which is indexed in the international database Scopus. Samashev, S. K. (2026). Altaydağı Ergenek Tañbası Turaly. Қазақстан археологиясы, 32(2 (32), 459–473. https://doi.org/10.52967/akz2026.2.32.459.473
